Charles George challenged the status quo and developed Colonial Hot Tubs further to be the best on the market. With little room for improvement in the hot tubs themselves, he focussed on sourcing the best available heaters, pumps, filtration and control systems available. In turn this has made the tubs as efficient, sustainable and user-friendly as possible.
2010’s
Charles George returned to New Zealand from overseas with his family to run Colonial Hot Tubs. Having worked alongside his brother Simon over the years he placed Colonial hot tubs in a position to create bespoke hot tubs in landscaped environments. A move to a new Henderson factory provided spaces to develop the product further and re-establish the brand as market leader. The gallery shows bespoke installs and design considerations customers were starting to require.
1990’s
Simon George purchased the company in 1991 running it from his Garage in Remuera. Having trained and worked as a cabinet maker he grew the brand and directed the quality of the product to what it is today. Production moved to a factory and storage unit in Mt Wellington as orders increased. A reliable high-quality supply of Canadian Heart Cedar was secured and techniques were refined.
1970’s
Colonial Hot Tubs was originally started by Brian Holloway in 1973 on Auckland’s North Shore. A hot tub enthusiast, he wanted more New Zealanders to experience the fun and relaxation of the deep hot tubs he had experienced overseas on his travels.
2019
The Plug & Play Hot Tub option was developed as a simpler alternative to bespoke installations. Plug & Play Hot Tubs are shipped directly to customers nationwide on a pallet, lifted into position by local contractors, plugged into a power point, filled with water and enjoyed by all.
2000’s
Trade shows became more popular to demonstrate and educate home owners about new products – and we were always there to show our Hot Tubs and promote their health benefits. We saw other hot tub brands come and go, which only consolidated the iconic Colonial brand as the market leader in quality and reliability.
1980’s
Fashion and lifestyles were changing and peoples ideas of Hot Tubs being a great way to relax and entertain started to develop. Brian refined his tub building techniques and established a set of tub sizes to choose from that suited various numbers of people.
